About the artist
My love of painting came from my late father, a self-taught folk artist and commercial sign painter. I learned to draw, mix colors and handle a brush by watching him, sometimes getting into trouble as a toddler for decorating the walls of our home with his paint – my first murals.
My father was of the same generation and culture as the Florida Highwaymen. Inspired by their legacy, my goal as a Florida landscape painter is to carry on their message of environmental and wetlands conservation through my paintings.
I attended Alabama State University where I studied fine art, graphic design and photography, graduating in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. I later studied photography, cinema and journalism at The Ohio State University, earning a Master’s degree in 1989.
